RESOURCE OWLS EMOTIONAL SUPPORT: JOURNEY SO FAR

Our journey began on February 19th, 2019, with the launch of a Facebook page, Smiling Rainbow LGBTQ Counseling. Initially, the core purpose of that platform was to provide affordable online counseling services, skill development, and create meetup spaces for LGBTQ community members.

Right from the beginning, it was A SOCIAL ENTERPRISE & NOT AN NGO, and we wanted to establish it as a self-sustained social enterprise. We wanted to start another platform in the next year, exclusively for straight people. 

However, due to COVID, we could not start it on time. Though it was not meant for straight people, we still started getting lots of callers from the straight community. In fact, most of the paid callers we had were from the ‘Straight Community’, and they somehow kept us floating.

After nearly five years, we had to make a few major changes to that platform to make it self-sustaining. We decided to start the Resource Owls Emotional Support service. It will be a platform for all and no more exclusiveness. We believe, together we can create a platform where we can combine our skill sets, knowledge base, and available resources to help each other safely and effectively. Our objective is to create a resourceful community for all.

We are beginning our journey with Resource Owls again this year. It will be a platform for all. Here we will be addressing the most pervasive issue of recent times, and that is loneliness. Here we will be providing three types of services, and you will get the details of those services in brief in the following section.

Here, I’ll be sharing all those changes along with our journey so far. During my master’s studies, I encountered many members of the LGBTQ community. While I was collecting data to write articles on LGBTQ issues in India, I observed a few LGBT issues that need intervention. The very first issue was loneliness, followed by proper legal counseling and a lack of meetup opportunities with fellow community members.

After five years, we noticed a disturbing pattern. The 98% callers from the LGBTQ community are not willing to pay for our service. Although most of them can afford the paid service, they still insist on taking it for free. Meanwhile, we noticed a few callers during lockdown who were not from the LGBTQ community, and they never asked for free service. After nearly five years, we finally closed Smiling Rainbow LGBTQ Counseling, since it failed to become self-sustainable even after 5 years. We decided to start Resource Owls Emotional Support, a platform for all.

WHAT SERVICES ARE WE OFFERING IN RESOURCE OWLS?

RESOURCE OWLS: POINTS NEED TO BE NOTED

The privacy of our callers is of utmost importance to us, and we never compromise with that aspect.
We collect the bare minimum personal details from the clients that we need to proceed with our services. 
We never share clients' information with any third party without the client's consent. 
During Let's Talk sessions, clients are allowed to turn off their cameras.
We only record case histories anonymously for future reference, research, and analysis purposes. 
Resource Owls is not a non-profit entity. We are committed to providing affordable services to our clients.
Presently, apart from Remote Jobs References, we don't provide any other free service.
Our Let's Talk session is not an alternative to any psychiatric treatment.

RESOURCE OWLS: JOURNEY BEGINS

LET'S TALK SESSIONS

We are offering affordable emotional support sessions as "Let's Talk Sessions." It will be one-to-one telephonic or video calling sessions in English, Hindi, and Bengali.

The core purpose of these sessions is to build a relationship and develop a strategy to cope with the loneliness issue. The second most important purpose of these sessions would be to develop a strategy where the accumulated team resources would help each other to achieve something big.

These sessions are not ideal for mental health patients, and we never encourage people to consider this session as a substitute for mental health treatment. To know more about this service, please visit the Let's Talk page.

MEETUP EVENTS & GROUP

We organize online and offline meet-up sessions with like-minded people. These meet-up sessions will be affordable events where you will get the opportunity to meet like-minded people and exchange ideas.

The Online Meetup includes webinars, virtual workshops, meetings, etc. Our Offline Meetup includes workshops, meetings, get-togethers, weekend trips, and domestic and international tours. The purpose of these Meetup events would be to build a resourceful community.

Another service that we are offering is our exclusive Meetup group. This is an exclusive invite-only Meetup group that comes with many perks.
